Recycling Overview

Recycling is more important today than it has ever been before. In order to keep our communities safe and clean, we all must pitch in to help recycle and reuse as much as possible. A convenient curbside recycling collection program is provided to all residential customers in the city of Oroville for no additional charge. Recycling is collected every other week, on the same day as your normal collection.

Only place recyclable materials into your blue container!

• NO Household Hazardous Waste
  (Paints, solvents, motor oil, cleaners, corrosives, etc.)
• NO Electronic / Universal Waste
  (Televisions, computers, cell phones, batteries, etc.)
• NO Green Waste
  (Grass clippings, leaves, tree and bush prunings, etc.)
• NO Garbage
  (All non-recyclable materials.)
• NO Construction Debris
  (Concrete, rocks, dirt, etc.)

Acceptable Recycling Materials Aseptic Containers Juice boxes Milk cartons Glass All colors of glass beverage and food containers (Please rinse and remove lids) Metal All metal food and beverage containers, including those made of aluminum, tin, steel and bi-metals: Aluminum cans (Soda cans, beer cans, etc.) Pots and pans Tin/steel food and beverage cans (Please rinse - Labels are okay) Paper Most clean and dry household paper, such as: Cardboard (Flatten and bundle with string no larger than 3'x3') Computer paper Envelopes (Including plastic window types) Food boxes (cereal, crackers, etc.) Junk mail and catalogs Magazines and phone books Newspaper Plastic All rigid containers with recycling symbols 1-7, and other materials including: Milk and juice jugs Plastic bags (Grocery, produce, dry cleaning, newspapers, etc.) Polystyrene blocks (From packaging materials) Polystyrene packing peanuts (Must be securely contained in a clear plastic bag) Polystyrene or plastic "take-out" containers Shampoo, detergent, and other household bottles (Please rinse and remove lids) Soft drink and water bottles Yogurt, margarine, and other food containers

Unacceptable Recycling Materials Glass Ceramics, Pyrex, porcelain, or other dishware Light bulbs or stemware Mirrors or window glass Metal Aerosol cans Car parts Foil Microwaves Small metal pieces (Nuts, bolts, etc.) Paint cans or other household hazardous waste containers Scrap metal Wire clothes hangers Paper Plates, cups, paper or cardboard contaminated with food Plastic Toys, furniture, flower pots and syringes Five-gallon buckets

Proper Container Placement And Storage
Recycling, green waste and garbage containers are collected by a semi-automated sanitation truck. The automated truck requires ample room to collect containers safely and effectively. For more information on container placement, please view our Proper Container Placement And Storage page.
